I first learned about HSR in 8th grade, when I first moved to Korea. My mother had recommended it to me, suggesting that it would be a good opportunity for me to share my words with the world and possibly make a difference.

I applied to HSR because I wanted to be able to share my words with the public. I loved looking through newspapers, but it often became repetitive to see the same news aritcles about the same celebrity scandals and unchanging world events over and over again. That was when I decided that I wanted to write my own news stories about what I wanted to read, about what I wanted others to read. Whether it be human rights issues or climate change, I wanted to cover a variety of topics to share with the world.

With the skills I obtained from HSR—citations, objective language, sentence structure, objective tone—I am now able to more effectively and efficiently do my school work.

The most memorable aspects of my experience with HSR is always the feedback I recieve. Whether positive or negative, I always recieve the comments graciously and gratefully—the editors of HSR always give their full effort in improving our articles, and I am forever grateful. I recieve feedback on parts I never even considered, and yet still make sense. My article is always better in the later drafts.

The biggest advantage about HSR is that it is a great way to earn journalistic and even life skills. As an obvious point, writers of HSR are able to learn skills of analytic thinking, objective flow of information, and efficient writing. However, on top of these benefits, students are able to learn about the responsibility of uploading monthly and the responsibility of their own words. Whatever you write reflects your true inner emotions—words are powerful tools, and HSR really allows you to realize this fact.

I would like to thank HSR for these many years. I have learned so much and have grown immensely through this program, and I wish to see others benefit like I did.
